Autumn Joy on Veteran's Day!
What a fun day it was this year to celebrate Veteran's Day! We had abundant sunshine and temperatures that truly seemed more like spring than fall. (And that was more than OK with me!) It was definitely a great day to take some new photos of the kids in the Green family! And what good looking kids they are! See all the fun and photos here! Reflections
We have had simply gorgeous weather this week... brilliant sunshine and balmy temperatures, which is especially nice considering it is almost mid November! Definitely perfect timing to get out and take a family portrait!
So, rushing out the door on Monday evening, after my husband got home from work and changed into his 'portrait clothes', it dawned on us that we had about forty five minutes, at most, before the sun was to set. And we had to drive across town to get to the setting that I had selected for this family photo. In rush hour traffic. And, of course, it seemed that we hit every red light along the way.
We finally arrived at our destination, only to be greeted with a sign stating how the grounds would be closed at sun set. Thank you, Mr. Park Sign, for the added reminder that we better get our booties into gear and get this picture made!
After scouting around to find a spot that would show the beauty of autumn, without showcasing a parking lot in the back ground, a jogger, or perhaps two geese squabbling over a piece of bread, I hurriedly set up the shot, got everyone placed, set the timer, and plopped into my spot before the timer could count to ten.
And, "voila"! a family photo was made.
Looking back and reflecting upon the day, I think family photos are just hectic... at least the ones that I can remember while growing up always seemed to be: There was usually a little one crying or whining, or someone was having a bad hair day, or maybe someone couldn't find their shoes, or who knows just what. But somehow, we always got through it, even if it had to be done through gritted teeth!
Stressful as they can be to organize, it truly is worth it to have those family portraits made. We all know how kids grow up so quickly, so it's important to mark moments we have together as a family... to freeze a moment in time... and then gazing at your children's faces and in them seeing glimpses of your own past: Perhaps a son looks so strikingly like his grandfather did at just that same age, or maybe in a daughter's face you see the eyes of those that came before you, whose faded black and white images you marveled at as a child, and wished you could have met.
So, yes, get those family portraits made, no matter how many roadblocks come up along the way, and remember: Family faces are like reflections, for in them we see the past, the present, and the future.
